BALTMI indexes for household expenses in August, 2017

Compared to July, average monthly expenses in August changed little. In Estonia and Lithuania average monthly expenses raised by 0.2% 509 EUR and 382 EUR respectively. Average household expenses in Latvia fell by 1.3% to 391 EUR.

These findings were observed from continuous Baltic Market Insights (BALTMI) research on consumption by Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian households, as well as BALTMI household expenses indexes calculated every month.

Average expenses per visit in August fell in Lithuania by 1.2% to 11.8 EUR, in Latvia – by 1.6% to 9.8 EUR. In the meantime in Estonia average basket per purchase remained stable: Estonians spent on average 14.7 EUR per shopping trip.  Average visits to shop increased in August in all Baltic States: in Estonia visits increased by 0.22% to 34.8 visits, in Latvia by 0.4% to 39.8 visits, and in Lithuania by 1.5% to 32.4 visits.

Compared to consumption indexes in July, the overall purchasing habits across Baltic States in August did not change. Estonia leads for average monthly expenses, whereas Latvian households purchase most often.

Average Monthly Expenses per Household evaluates expenses for food, drinks, non-food, tobacco products, medications, entertainment and petrol (expenses for utilities and services are not included). Average Expenses per Visit evaluate average purchase basket size.
