Compared to April, average monthly expenses in all three Baltic countries in May changed differently. Average household expenses in Estonia raised by over 4% to 495 EUR, while in Lithuania they fell by 4% to 398 EUR. Meanwhile in Latvia average monthly expenses per household changed little, and raised by 2% to 394.8 EUR.
These findings were observed from continuous BALTMI research on consumption by Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian households, as well as BALTMI household expenses indexes calculated every month.
Average expenses per visit in May decreased in all three Baltic States. Average basket in Latvia changed little – fell by 1.3% to 10 EUR – but in Lithuania if fell by 7.4% to 11.4 EUR, and in Estonia – by 3% to 14.5 EUR. In the meantime, average visits per households in May raised in all countries. In Estonia the increase was the highest – average visits raised by 7.5% to 34.2 visits. In Lithuania and Latvia visits raised by 3.5% and 3% respectively to 34.9 and 39 visits.
Compared to consumption indexes in April, the overall purchasing habits across Baltic States in May did not change. Estonia leads for average monthly expenses, whereas Latvian households purchase most often.
Average Monthly Expenses per Household evaluates expenses for food, drinks, non-food, tobacco products, medications, entertainment and petrol (expenses for utilities and services are not included). Average Expenses per Visit evaluate average purchase basket size.
